The Getting Started with Team-Based Learning online workshop focuses on using the principles of Team-Based Learning to design a course experience that focuses on helping students learn how to apply and use course concepts to solve problems, rather than remember the “facts” for the test. The TBL principles developed by Larry Michaelsen can be applied to any course regardless of subject matter or class size.

The online workshop is two weeks in length, so you will not have time to design an entire course, but by the end, you will have:

  • Designed a single, well-integrated TBL module
  • Developed module-level outcomes, module activities and student preparation materials and activities
  • Developed team formation and peer evaluation plan
  • Identified possible challenges you might face as you deliver your TBL course.

The workshop includes multiple opportunities for interaction and feedback from an experienced coach and other workshop participants. It's fast-paced, includes due dates for activities, and active participation is required.

Note:  You will need to purchase the book, Getting Started with Team-Based Learning prior to beginning the workshop. Either the ebook or paper copy is acceptable. Further purchase information is available upon completion of registration.

Registration closes October 11, 2018.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Cancellation policy

Registration Cancellation by Optimize:   Optimize reserves the right to cancel a course or event due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the course or event non-viable. Should circumstances arise that result in the postponement of an event or course, registrants will have the option to either receive a full refund or transfer registration to the same or a different course of the same type at a new, future date.

Registration Cancellation by Participant:   Cancellations received prior to the Close of Registration date are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations received after the Close of Registration date but before the first day of the course are eligible for a 50% refund.   Cancellations or withdrawals from the course or event received after the course commences (start date of the course or event) are not eligible for a refund. The registered attendee, institution representative or credit card holder must make the refund request. Refund requests must include the name of the attendee, course, start date, contact information and institution (if applicable). Cancellations are accepted by e-mail (lindaj@optimizelearning.org) only. Refunds will be credited back to the original method of payment.

Participants who do not successfully complete a course are encouraged to retake the course again at a time that better fits their schedule, but "credit" for previous partial completion is not available and participants will be required to pay the full registration fee for the new session.

Please contact Linda Jacoby (lindaj@optimizelearning.org) with any questions.
